Finding Support in Texas
In Texas, the adoptive family is responsible for covering the following expenses:
- Attorneys’ fees
- Prenatal, pregnancy, and birth expenses
- Reasonable costs that cover additional pregnancy expenses (i.e., rent, grocery bills)
A Texas judge must approve any payments from the adoptive family. However, you will never be required to reimburse anyone for covered expenses if you change your mind about adoption.
Additionally, Texas Penal Code Chapter 25 states that adoption agencies can provide financial assistance to birth mothers to meet necessary pregnancy-related or legal expenses.
This ultimately means that your medical and adoption-related expenses will be covered. As the birth mother, you should never pay for necessary costs incurred during the process.
The adoption agency you work with will help you understand your rights and ensure you’re connected to additional support.
