Are you wondering if you’re unexpectedly pregnant or trying to avoid pregnancy? Typically, a woman’s least fertile times of the month are the first week of your period (your menstrual period starts on day 1) and around day 20 through the end of your cycle. This could vary based on how long your period cycle is.
If you think you could be pregnant, get answers at Moore Options Pregnancy Center with no-cost and confidential pregnancy testing.
How Does a Woman’s Cycle Work?
Your cycle begins with the menstrual phase (when you bleed), called the follicular phase. Next is the ovulation phase, the monthly release of an egg from an ovary. The ovulatory phase is when you are most likely to get pregnant. After ovulation is the luteal phase, which continues until your period starts again.
You can get pregnant about six days out of the month during your fertile window, but the likelihood is higher when having sex leading up to ovulation.
When is My Fertile Window?
Though it varies from woman to woman, a woman’s cycle generally lasts 28 days in total. Your fertile window may be longer or shorter than other women. We want to note that though tracking your cycle is important to preventing pregnancy, it’s not always 100% effective due to possible irregular periods.
You can track your cycle using a calendar, pay attention to changes in your cervical mucus every day, and jot them down. You can also try a basal thermometer to monitor your body temperature changes during ovulation. There are so many apps available to help you predict your ovulation window, but only one is currently FDA-approved.
