A closed adoption means that the courts seal all identifying details, and no information is disclosed. There is also no contact between the birth mother, the adoptive family, and the child she places for adoption.
If you are considering adoption and value privacy or confidentiality, a closed adoption may be an option worth exploring.
At Moore Options Pregnancy Center, we offer no-cost options consultations to help you understand what each option could look like for you, whether you are exploring adoption or something else.
What to Know About Adoption
When you choose adoption, you remain in control of your plan, including selecting the adoptive family. Adoption options include open adoption with ongoing (optional) contact, semi-open adoption facilitated through an agency or attorney, and closed adoption, which provides complete confidentiality of your identity. It is important to note that while an Open Adoption plan can be selected and agreed upon by both parties, open adoption is not legally enforceable in the state of Texas.
In many cases, approved medical and living expenses are covered, and you never pay adoption fees.
Can I Change My Mind?
You can change your mind at any time up until you sign legal papers. When exploring adoption, many people are still sorting through what they think is best. That is a normal part of the process.
Learning about the adoption process, making an adoption plan, or even talking with an agency does not lock you into a decision. In Texas, a birth mother cannot sign any documents for at least 48 hours after the birth of her child. Until then, you retain your parental rights.
