There Is Hope

If you’ve taken mifepristone, the first drug in the abortion pill regimen, and you regret your decision, you may wonder whether you can continue the pregnancy. Amidst the uncertainty, know there is hope.

A protocol called Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) may allow you to reverse the effects of this drug. However, timing is everything; you must act now to increase your chances of success.

What is Abortion Pill Reversal?

To understand Abortion Pill Reversal, you should first learn how mifepristone works in the abortion pill regimen.

This drug blocks progesterone, the hormone essential to a pregnancy’s growth and development. Without progesterone, the pregnancy will detach from the uterine lining and end.

APR attempts to counteract the effects of mifepristone. The protocol involves administering doses of progesterone that potentially outnumber and outcompete the drug.

This protocol is most effective if started within 24-72 hours after taking mifepristone. The sooner you begin APR, the more likely your pregnancy will continue.

Things to Consider

Time is of the essence, so it’s vital to begin the process immediately. Please note that APR will not work if you have already taken misoprostol, which induces uterine contractions.

Though APR is not FDA-approved, it has been shown to help women continue their pregnancies. Progesterone has been used to support and sustain pregnancies for over 50 years.

Additionally, one study found that it had a 68% success rate when taken orally, and there was no apparent increased risk of birth defects. If you want to continue your pregnancy, APR may be right for you.
